I've got a new sales pitch today. Well, somewhat new, you've heard me promoting it for the past few weeks, but the new Generative AI for Marketers course is now open.
What's In It?
The course is a self-paced 5 hour intensive to teach you:
What generative AI is
How large language models work
Prompt engineering best practices
The 6 major generative AI use cases
Piloting and governance of AI
Risk mitigation for generative AI
Scaling the use of AI
Marketing impacts of generative AI & mitigation methods
Impacts on careers
Previews of what's next in generative AI
What's in It for You?
Deep Dive into AI: Explore the foundations of large language models like ChatGPT and how they're reshaping content creation and data analysis.
Practical Skills: Gain hands-on experience in applying AI insights to enhance your marketing strategies, from site traffic analysis to optimizing channel diversity.
Real-World Applications: With every lesson, you'll be able to directly apply your new knowledge to your marketing tasks, ensuring that every bit of learning translates into real-world results.
Who Should Take This Course?
You are a fit to take this course if you meet ANY of these qualifications:
You're interested in or currently using generative AI
You have tried ChatGPT or a similar system at least once
You are trying to learn more about generative AI, specifically more use cases and practical examples
You are responsible for day to day marketing tactics that might be candidates for AI to help with
You are responsible for managing people and their use of AI, or working on a strategy for doing so
Yuu are responsible for the overall strategic use of AI in your company
Who Should NOT Take This Course?
The course isn't for everyone. If you're an advanced user, you will get some but not as much benefit from it. Here's how to know if you're an advanced user.
You know the different scenarios in which you would implement Pinecone vs ChromaDB for retrieval augmented generation
You understand and perhaps have even done adjustments to tensor layers in an open weights model, or done a model merge
You are currently writing code against the OpenAI Assistants API, or you are using AutoGen or LangChain
You also shouldn't take this course if you are adamantly opposed to the use of AI. It'll just make you even more unhappy.
Testimonial from An Actual Human Being
Here's a testimonial from Hannah, who took the course as a beta tester:
When Chris Penn talks, I listen. And he talked (a lot) in his course about generative AI for marketers. I’m wholly satisfied with my decision to hunker down on a Sunday to complete the curriculum because this isn’t another “how to write better prompts” snooze fest.
This course gave me the critical frameworks I need to not only extract better output from our generative AI friends, but also deploy and operationalize AI in my company without putting us at legal, creative, or ethical risk.
And that’s not even the best part. This course gave me strategic direction so I can start taking steps today to build a moat around my company. (A few times I had to pause the course videos so I could send emails to my colleagues about key agenda items for our next quarterly planning meeting!)
We’re all nervous about how AI will impact our companies, erode our competitive advantages, and jeopardize our jobs. This course is the antidote to those very real and very justified concerns. If you’re on the fence about taking this course, I urge you to hop off and log into the course portal now.

Disclosures:
I used the GPT-4 model with a Custom GPT to write the benefits bullet point list and the call to action. Even with a custom GPT, the software really struggled to generate the who should/shouldn't lists because (especially in the should not list) they contain a lot of knowledge not in the source materials.
This Generative AI course for marketers looks fantastic! AI is transforming marketing strategies, and having a structured way to learn is invaluable. Excited to check it out!
